link hovers and hydroponics
The best link hover I've seen in years (ok, maybe ever) is on metaefficient.com (just hold your mouse over any link).
When link hovers were starting to come into fashion (around 2000 or so, when the mozilla milestones were the only thing around that displayed them) I wrote a little article about them, and it was one of the first things that went on to the website known as Loxosceles. I went looking for the article. The text seems to be lost, but the illustrations are still around. I screenshotted all the interesting hovers I could find, including the ones that were particularly ugly and the ones I thought were cool. The ZDNet one was for "omg a mainstream site is using it too!" effect.
It was pretty weird to look back at my old stuff. I'm still proud of the thing I wrote on link colors, back when that was a controversial topic on CHI-WEB.
Anyhow, the thing that brought me to metaefficient was an article on using monochromatic (red) LEDs to grow plants. The details are sparse. Of course the link with all the dirt on what equipment to use, how to set it up, and whether it's really cost efficient is from a bunch of pot-growing teenagers.
