shopping bags
Once again I'm ahead of the times by being fashionably behind the times. Wherever I go, I carry a crocheted string bag from a 1933 pattern, scrunched up in my purse. It expands to carry a ton of groceries, fabric, or whatever I end up buying. (Tip: say "I don't need a bag" the second you approach the checkout counter and have the cashier's attention.)
Now that it's Earth Day season, reusable grocery bags are suddenly cool. Here's a similar bag from the current issue of Canadian Living magazine. Ralph Lauren made one, too, but had to do it in metallic leather to reach the same level of cool.
If your thoughts run more toward sewn fabric bags, check out this contest/brainstorming session on one of my favorite blogs.
